Black Lab Software CEO Roberto J. Dohnert is informing Softpedia today about the release and general availability of the netOS Server 10.65.1 server-oriented and open-source operating system.

Designed to meet the highest demand in terms of cloud applications, netOS Server 10.65.1 is built on top of the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system and ships with the long-term supported Linux 4.4 kernel, offers headless operation functionality, as well as an embedded GUI experience with DWM (Dynamic Window Manager for X).

"netOS Server is built for today's cloud infrastructure as well as in-house data-center deployment. We have positioned netOS Server for security and as the easiest to use and deploy Linux server system on the market. netOS Server is designed to be easy to use by novices and seasoned Linux professionals," said Roberto J. Dohnert.

Uses Xfce 4.12 for a full GUI experience

netOS Server 10.65.1 is using the lightweight Xfce 4.12 desktop environment to provide its users with a full GUI experience and comes with support for the latest Docker, OpenStack, ownCloud, and ChromiumOS WebContainer technologies. It also includes the Apache 2 web server and Apache Tomcat 8 application server.

Among other components integrated into this release, we can mention the MongoDB document-oriented database program, PHP server-side programming language, Postfix mail transfer agent, as well as Node.js server-side JavaScript environment. Best of all, netOS Server 10.65.1 offers rebootless kernel updates for 100% uptime.

Under the hood, netOS Server 10.65.1 provides support for the Btrfs and XFS filesystems, OpenSSH server and client, Webmin integration for remote administration of the operating system, and system-wide full-disk encryption. netOS Server 10.65.1 is available for download for free as a 64-bit (x86_64) ISO image.

While those who choose to download the free ISO image without a paid support subscription will only receive support via the official forums of the project, Black Lab Software also provides customers with phone and e-mail support, as well as onsite maintenance if they purchase new 24-month support licenses.
