As far as lingo goes, few companies actually managed to live up to the free branding customers actually invent when faced with changing lifestyles based on that brand's product or service. Netflix is one of those and decided put the proverbial "Netflix and Chill" expression in practice by adding the chill element besides Netflix.

And, how much better to add it than by actually inventing a device, or better said a button that does the "chilling." And by chilling it means dimming off the lights, activating your phone's Do Not Disturb feature and getting Netflix ready for the streaming ahead. Unveiled at the 2015 World Maker Faire, the new Netflix button prototype called "The Switch" adds the chill to users who plan to start watching Netflix and don't want to be disturbed.

The small device, although it features just one bug button, is in fact powered by a Particle Core that features an Arduino-compatible development kit that features onboard WiFi. To power that, there's a battery, some LEDs and an IR transmitter that apparently mimics the IR signal found in Netflix-compatible TVs.

Additionally, the small Particle Core device can also interact with your home network of connected light bulbs and can simultaneously put you phone in Do Not Disturb mode, order some predefined snacks via the home app server and turn on the home audio system.

It's a bit tricky to have it bring the Chill in your house, but with a bit of skill it may work

You probably ask yourself, how can it do it all at the push of a single button? Well, it can't really. You must tweak it a bit and have some understanding of electronics, web servers and even some API knowledge before having the little device do ten things around your house at the push of a single button.

At the moment the Netflix button is under works, and the company engineers still accept suggestions on what the next build should contain, and maybe it will get even more user friendly for those who don't really have the patience to tweak the hell out of their home electronics. Netflix and chill should really have a chill element in there, somewhere, after all.
