Study shows that the UK is becoming a friendlier market for Microsoft's Windows Phone mobile operating system

They say Europe is a much friendlier market for Microsoft’s Windows Phone, at least when compared to the United States, and statistics indeed show that more customers in this region purchase devices running Redmond’s mobile operating system than in many other parts of the world.

And a recent study conducted by Strategy Analytics shows that, as far as the United Kingdom is concerned, things are going pretty well for Microsoft, as more companies are at least considering switching to Windows Phone in the next 12 months.

Basically, the majority of firms in the United Kingdom are considering providing their employees with devices running Android or iOS, but 23 percent of them said that they were also looking at Windows Phone as a potential option.

Consumer-wise, Microsoft’s Windows Phone sales in the United Kingdom are also going well, with recent data showing that sales of devices running this operating system increased 32 percent year-on-year during the first quarter of 2015.

5.8 percent market share in the UK

In terms of market share, Windows Phone’s is not in any way overwhelming, as it’s at 5.8 percent for the first quarter of the year, but this also shows an increase of 1.5 percent in the country. But on the bright side, Windows Phone thus became the fastest-growing operating system for smartphones during the period, with an increase of 32 percent versus 7.8 percent for Apple’s iOS.

Microsoft seems to be playing the winning card in Europe, where budget models are gaining traction faster than in the United States, and where the company gains market share much more easily, despite the fact that new flagships are yet to be part of its portfolio.

That’s projected to change later this year, when Microsoft debuts Windows 10 Mobile, which in its turn is expected to bring us several new high-end phone models.
