The development cycle of the upcoming GNOME 3.22 desktop environment continues at a fast pace, and we can now get our hands on the first Beta pre-release version, which contains many updated core components and applications.

A second Beta milestone of GNOME 3.22 is expected to launch later today, August 31, 2016, or by the end of the week if more bugs need to be fixed, but some of the GNOME apps have already received a Beta 2 release, such as the powerful and widely used Nautilus file manager.

Nautilus 3.22 Beta 2 snapshot is now available for public testing, and believe it or not, this is also the first development milestone released for the upcoming GNOME 3.22 desktop environment. There aren't so many changes, but they're pretty important for us, Linux users, who use Nautilus every single day during our computing sessions.

As usual, we've managed to get our hands on the internal changelog, so we can tell you that Nautilus 3.22 will have a batch renaming tool integrated into it. How awesome is that? Pretty awesome if you need to rename a bunch of files, and you always end up searching all over the Internet for the right software.

Moreover, Nautilus 3.22 promises support for viewing compressed files, a revamped View Menu, as well as the ability to use the CTRL key as a shortcut for zooming in. Another exciting new feature is that, starting with this release, Nautilus will handle the desktop separately from the file manager component, and that's really cool.

Nautilus 3.20.3 released as well with HiDPI support in desktop margins

In some more good news about our favorite file manager, which is currently used by default in numerous popular GNU/Linux distributions, including Ubuntu, OpenSuSE, Fedora, or Solus, Nautilus 3.20.3 stable update has been released as well today with HiDPI support in desktop margins, as well as fixes for a couple of annoying bugs.

GNOME 3.22 will launch in approximately three weeks from the moment of writing this article, on September 21, 2016, and Nautilus 3.22 will be present with all the goodies mentioned above. However, if you feel adventurous, you can now download the Nautilus 3.22 Beta 2 build and take it for a test drive.
