The launch date for Mycroft is April, 2016

With all the talk about the Mycroft AI, people might have forgotten about the fact that it’s only happening because it’s a powerful device designed to turn your home into a smart one. And now we get to see its insides.

Mycroft was initially proposed through a Kickstarter project, and people immediately loved the way it looked. Its makers chose to humanize the little box and give it a face, which made it a hit at once. The fact that it was powered, or about to be powered, by a powerful AI was not even a consideration.

Things started to become really interesting when the developers of Mycroft announced that they were going to make the AI that’s powering the device open source, and that it was coming to the Linux desktop. They even have a launch date for Mycroft, and it’s April 2016.

Like all pen source projects, it’s going to be enhanced after the launch, but we expect to see it functional and ready for testing before that happens.

Mycroft is coming together

With a few months before launch, the Mycroft project is coming together, and the first prototype seems to be almost complete. Its developers have posted some images with the insides of Mycroft, and they only serve to make us anxious about the launch.

“We've experimented with multiple versions and prototypes. And here we are testing what we believe will be the final parts. Preparing to put together the final prototype,” project leader Ryan Sipes explained.

As we already know, the brain of Mycroft is a Raspbery Pi, and from the looks of it, they are pretty much done with the hardware design. They can now dedicate all of their efforts to the software. The devs are already making great progress, and we can hardly wait until April to see and maybe test the new Mycroft.
