14 DAY TRIAL // Mozilla's Firefox OS for mobile devices did not seem to have gained the much-needed traction in those markets where the company decided to make it available.
Now Mozilla is trying to steal some customers that already own a smartphone and are not willing to change it for the moment. We're referring to Android users, which will now have the option to try out Firefox OS without having to buy another handset.
The new Firefox OS 2.5 Developer Preview is an experimental application that allows you to experience this mobile platform on an Android device.
If you want to try it out, then you will have to download the APK file (88MB) directly from Mozilla's website since Firefox OS 2.5 Developer Preview is not available on Google Play Store.
In case you don't know what to expect from Firefox OS, then here are some of the main features highlighted by Mozilla.
Only compatible with certain devices
First of all, Firefox OS is supposed to offer the most customization since it allows users to download apps and add-ons from the Firefox Marketplace, and keep all favorite items front and center with Pin the Web.
Users will also have absolute control over their browsing experience thanks to the Do Not Track and Private Browsing with Tracking Protection features.
Mozilla also published a list of devices that should be fully compatible with the new Firefox OS 2.5 Developer Preview.
Here is the complete list: Alcatel OneTouch Fire, Geeksphone Peak, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Motorola Moto G, Sony Xperia Mini, Sony Xperia T2 Ultra, Sony Xperia Z2, Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3C, Sony Xperia Z3, Sony Xperia E3 and ZTE Open.
Keep in mind, though, that since this a Developer Preview after all, you should expect that some things won't be as fluid as they should. Also, some features might not work as intended, or not at all.
