Right on schedule, Motorola has taken the wraps off its 2015 edition of the Moto X flagship, promising an important update over last year’s Moto X models.
This year, the company has unveiled not one but two Moto X versions, one called Moto X Style and the other dubbed Moto X Play. Let’s take a look at each and see what they bring to the table.
Moto X Style
The first variation arrives with a 5.7-inch QHD display (2560 x 1440) like most top-tier smartphones being announced today.
It seems that Motorola has taken the negative fuss created around the Snapdragon 810 over its overheating issues to heart, so the Moto X Style is powered by a hexacore Snapdragon 808 chipset instead (like the LG G4), working hand in hand with 3GB of RAM.
Photography will probably be one of Moto X Style’s biggest selling points in the sense that Motorola has fitted the device with a huge 21MP rear-facing camera, plus a 5MP frontal shooter.
The phone is also said to have a microSD card slot to be used for expansion up to 128GB. It also offers universal LTE banding and draws life from a 3,000 mAh battery.
The Moto X Style runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box and will probably be among the first the receive the Android M update after the Nexus family.
As for pricing, the Moto X Style is said to arrive in retail with a price tag between $300 / €272 and $400 / €363 off contract.
Moto X Play
When it comes to the Moto X Play, this model arrives with a 5.5-inch full HD display (1920 x 1080 pixels). Under the hood we find the Snapdragon 615 processor breathing life into the phone.
The device is sustained by a larger 3,603 mAh battery and bundles the same camera combo as the Moto X Style.
It brings forth 2GB of RAM and microSD card slot integration. The Moto X Play will have a dual SIM version available, as just like the other Moto X phone, it ships out with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box.
This handset should be marketed for a price ranging between $200 / €181 and $300 / €272.
Naturally, the two new phones will be eligible for customization within the Moto Maker program which offers a wide variety of colors and back casing materials.
