Most of Motorola’s recent phones will get the update

We have covered the Stagefright vulnerability extensively in the past few days, and it appears that device manufacturers are slowly starting to take notice of the underlying threat and are promising to deliver security patches to fix this thread.

First to announce that it was taking things seriously was Samsung, who said it would be releasing security updates for its phones (it didn’t mention which models exactly) each month.

Then Google stepped forth and said the same for its Nexus lineup. Well, the third company making a similar announcement is Motorola. The US smartphone maker has been pretty quick to provide software updates to its phones, so it’s no wonder it is not disappointing its customers here either.

This week, Motorola has made an official blog post where it announces that its most recent Android phones will soon be getting updates that include security patches to fix the Stagefright vulnerability.

Which Motorola phones will get patched?

So owners of the Motorola Moto X (first and second generation), Moto X Pro, Moto G (first, second and third generation), Moto G LTE (first and second generation), Moto E (first and second generation), Moto E LTE (second generation), Motorola Droid Ultra, Droid Mini and Droid Maxx can stop stressing about the Stagefright thing.

Motorola says that the software will be delivered to carrier partners for testing starting August 10. So if everything goes well, we can expect to see the phones get the update towards the end of the month (hopefully).

As you have probably noticed, the newly launched Moto X Style / Moto X Pure Edition and Moto X Play aren’t included on the list. But that’s not because Motorola won’t be offering them protection.

The phones are yet to be released on the market, but when they are, they will come with integrated security patches.

In case you missed the scoop on this matter, the Moto X Play should become available for purchase later this month, while the Moto X Style / Pure Edition will be making a debut on the market starting this September.
