Motorola unveiled two smartphones in the Moto Z series in June, during Tech World, and it seems that the third device in the series has just arrived. The company has officially announced the Moto Z Play and Hasselblad True Zoom camera module.

Images and specs of the Moto Z Play have been leaking for weeks now, and the company has finally unveiled the smartphone. The Moto Z Play is the more affordable handset in the series, and it has full compatibility with MotoMods modular accessories.

As expected, Moto Z Play comes with a 5.5-inch FHD AMOLED display and runs an octa-core 2.0GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor and 3GB of RAM so that users can “play games, stream video and multitask without missing a beat.”

Rear camera capacity reaches 16MP with f/2.0 aperture, laser autofocus, and phase detection. Moto Z Play also comes with a 5MP camera on the front with f/2.2 aperture and 32GB of internal storage, with the option to add up to 2TB by using a microSD card.

Moto Z Play comes with USB Type-C port and 3.5mm headphone jack

Moto Z Play has a fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. A dual-SIM variant of the handset will be available in certain markets, but Motorola hasn’t mentioned which. Battery capacity reaches 3,510mAh, and there's also TurboPower, which provides up to 9 hours of power in just 15 minutes of charging.

The smartphone boasts water-repellent nano-coating and is available in multiple color variants, including black, silver, black slate white, fine gold, and sugar white. It runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box and will be available at Verizon starting September 8 for $17 per month or $408 full retail. The unlocked version will be sold for $449.99, and pre-orders are set to begin on September 15, with shipments arriving sometime in October. The unlocked model is GSM-only.

Hasselblad True Zoom camera module will be available for pre-order starting September 8

Motorola has also unveiled a new MotoMod, Hasselblad True Zoom, which comes with 10x Optical Zoom and a Xenon flash. It has the ability to shoot RAW images, and users will get access to Hasselblad’s Phocus software for editing images, as well as two years of unlimited free storage with Google Photos.

The camera mod will be available for purchase on September 15 for $249.99 at Verizon and $299 at Motorola.com, while pre-orders will start on September 8.
