14 DAY TRIAL // Motorola is working on new iterations in the Moto Z line of flagship smartphones, expected to feature models with upgraded specs, but still keep compatibility with Moto Mods that were launched last year and new ones that are expected to hit the market soon.
Moto Z2 Play has just received TENAA certification revealing the smartphone’s design and some of its specs. The Z2 Play was previously rumored to feature a smaller battery compared to last year’s model, perhaps so that Motorola can deliver a slimmer smartphone.
It seems that rumors were confirmed by the TENAA listing, as the Moto Z2 Play appears to feature a battery capacity of just 2,820mAh, much smaller than last year’s 3,510mAh. Still, this could be a turn-off for some consumers, as the battery capacity was one of the selling points of the Moto Z Play.

In terms of display size, the Moto Z2 Play doesn’t seem to bring any changes; it continues to sport a 5.5-inch screen with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, while the processor inside was upgraded to the Snapdragon 626 SoC, clocked at a higher speed of 2.2GHz.
RAM capacity was upped to 4GB, while internal storage is now double at 64GB. The selfie snapper has a 5MP capacity, just like the Moto Z Play, but the rear camera seems to have a sensor of 12MP, smaller than last year’s 16MP lens.
Unsurprisingly, the Moto Z2 Play will run Android 7.1.1 Nougat and will feature a fingerprint sensor in the front, quite similar to the one found on Moto G5 phones. It will also be compatible with Moto Mods and will most likely be offered in a number of color options, one of which is Luna Grey.
Alongside the Moto Z2 Play, Motorola is also expected to announce the Moto Z2 and Moto Z2 Force sometime this summer. The latter is said to come with a dual-camera setup on the back and powerful specs like Snapdragon 835 and a 5.5-inch Quad HD display.
