Motorola is working on new iterations in the Moto Z series, smartphones that will be the successors to last year’s Moto Z, Moto Z Force and Moto Z Play. More information about the Moto Z2 Play has just surfaced, revealing a battery capacity smaller than its predecessor.

Motorola is planning to release a slimmer and lighter Moto Z2 Play smartphone, one that will be 6mm thick and weight 145 grams. Moto Z2 Play will be 1mm thinner and 20 grams lighter than last year’s model.

But in order to achieve a slimmer device, Motorola was forced to compromise on battery capacity. Moto Z Play features a battery of 3,510mAh, while its successor is said to draw power from a 3,000mAh battery, according to VentureBeat.

4GB of RAM and Snapdragon 626 inside the Moto Z2 Play

Aside from this, roughly all other components will be upgraded; the processor will be upped from Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 to Snapdragon 626 SoC with octa-core 2.2GHz CPU, while RAM capacity could reach 4GB, which is 1GB more compared to last year’s model. The same graphics processing unit will be found on this year’s model.

The smartphone could come with 64GB of internal memory, double the amount found on the Moto Z Play. Display size will stay the same at 5.5 inches with full HD pixel resolution. Front camera capacity stays the same at 5MP, but the device will feature a 12MP sensor on this year’s model, with f/1.7 aperture and dual-focus pixels, compared to a 16MP sensor on the Moto Z Play.

Moto Z2 Play will be provided in two color options, Lunar Gray and Fine Gold, while the smartphone will run Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box. Moto Z2 and other devices in the Moto Z series will be announced later this year, and Motorola is expected to unveil other smartphones too, including Moto C and C Plus, Moto E4 and E4 Plus.
