Browser extension support is probably the one thing that Microsoft Edge users are looking for in the upcoming Anniversary Update for Windows 10, and it turns out that work on this feature is advancing quite fast.

The Pin It Button extension which was showcased by Microsoft itself earlier this year is now available in the store, which is a sign that the company is already testing the way extensions are being distributed to users on Windows 10.

This Pinterest extension requires the latest version of Windows 10 preview build in order to successfully install it, but although the process seems to be working fine, it cannot be used in Microsoft Edge. Most likely, Microsoft is still experimenting with browser extensions, and this kind of bugs are nothing to be surprised about at this point of development.

“Click the Pinterest button next time you find something interesting that you want to save for later. Collect recipes from your favorite food blogs, articles you want to read later, ideas for your home and more! Links are saved as visual bookmarks, which are much easier to recognize and organize than the the same old text bookmarks your browser gives you,” the extension description published in the store reads.

Google Chrome extension compatibility

The Anniversary Update is projected to debut in the summer of this year, so Microsoft hopes that by the time this happens, more developers would bring their extensions in the store to let Windows 10 users install them in Edge.

In order to make this possible, Microsoft designed Edge in order to work with the majority of Chrome extensions with little to no modifications at all, so developers should be able to port their browser add-ons and release them in the store quite easily.

Several extension developers have already expressed their intention to port their projects for Windows 10’s Edge browser, but it remains to be seen how many of them would actually manage to do that by the time the Anniversary Update hits the market.
