Samsung announced the discontinuation of the Galaxy Note 7 and the second recall of the smartphone, which means that the company is now busy collecting the units from its owners.

Depending on the place of purchase, consumers have the option to get a full refund or opt for another phone, and a survey conducted by Branding Brand reveals some of the intentions that Galaxy Note 7 owners have once they return their phones.

The survey shows that 40% of Samsung consumers won’t buy another phone from the company, which represents a 6% increase since the first week of the Note 7’s US recall in September. In addition, 30% of Samsung consumers stated that they never bought another brand of smartphone.

30% of Samsung phone owners may switch to an iPhone

Out of all Samsung customers who intend to switch to another brand, 8% will buy a Google Pixel smartphone, 30% intend to switch to iPhone, and 62% wish to get another Android-running smartphone.

It seems that Google will take a bit out of Samsung’s market share, while Apple might take over some of the customers that Samsung has just lost. However, the previous survey showed that 34% of users intended to switch to an iPhone, and the number dropped after Google unveiled the Pixel phones.

In September, 57% of Note 7 owners wanted to get another Android phone and it seems that this number has increased as well. As expected, Samsung will lose some of its market share to competitors, as the company is now relying on sales of its other flagships, like the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Samsung has increased production for these two phone models.

Branding Brand is the world’s leading mobile e-commerce platform and this second survey was conducted on 1,000 Samsung smartphone owners between October 11-12.
