Microsoft launched Windows 10 Anniversary Update in early August and promised to complete the rollout to all PCs in approximately three months. And according to new statistics, the release cycle and the adoption of the Anniversary Update is going very well.

At this point, Windows 10 Anniversary Update (1607) is the top Windows 10 version in the ecosystem. AdDuplex data puts it at 86.3 percent, which means that more than 8 in 10 PCs are currently running the Anniversary Update.

Windows 10 version 1511 (November Update) is the runner-up with 10.4 percent, but its share is rapidly declining, as more and more users are switching to the Anniversary Update.

The original version of Windows 10, which was launched in July 2015, is now powering 2.6 percent of the PCs, while 0.7 percent of them are running preview builds of the upcoming Creators Update as part of the Windows Insider program.

“Anniversary Update is a safe target version for Windows 10 developers on the desktop as well. Now with 87% of the users using AU or newer build,” AdDuplex data shows.

Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update

The same is happening on mobile phones as well, as the Windows 10 Anniversary Update is now powering 81.9 percent of all Windows 10 smartphones out there. Windows 10 Mobile version 1511 (November Update) is still second in the charts with 7.7 percent, but what’s more impressive is that 10.4 percent of the users have already installed Creators Update builds on their smartphones.

These figures can only be good news for Microsoft, especially because the company is trying to prevent fragmentation by pushing users to the latest Windows 10 versions on every occasion. The upcoming Creators Update will become Microsoft’s next target, but with so many users already running the Anniversary Update, it’s very likely to see an en-masse transition to the new version.

The Windows 10 Creators Update is due in early 2017, and according to unconfirmed reports, March could be the target month for the official release.
