Expect the Surface Pro 4 in October, new sources claim

Microsoft is planning to focus more than ever on hardware and expanding its Surface lineup with the addition of a new model is a priority for the company right now.

The Surface Pro 4, which is generally referred to as the successor to the Surface Pro 3, is already in the works and now there's some talk online about the features of this new model.

Before anything, however, keep in mind that this is just a rumor and Microsoft hasn't confirmed anything about the new model (not even its existence), so take everything with a pinch of salt for the moment).

First and foremost, rumor has it that the Surface Pro 4 will come with Intel's Skylake line of processors and a choice of three CPUs will be offered, starting with i3 and ending with i7.

This is pretty much obvious given the fact that Microsoft has always wanted the Surface Pro to have the latest in terms of hardware, and since Skylake is already available, it makes sense for the fourth generation to come with this processor.

Release date in October

In addition to the Skylake processor, the Surface Pro 4 will offer several choices of RAM, with the high-end version to boast no less than 16 GB (and the i7 CPU).

Storage options can go all the way up to 1TB for the top version, and other options will include 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB.

In terms of display, the Surface Pro 4 will be available with at least a 12-inch screen, but some say that Microsoft is planning to offer two different options, including a 14-inch version.

Again, this hasn't been confirmed and is unlikely for the time being, but it could make sense given the fact that Microsoft was said to be looking into a larger device to directly compete against laptops (the Surface Pro 3 was already marketed as a laptop replacement, but with a 14-inch device, Microsoft is looking into creating a direct competitor).

Other features would include a bigger battery for longer autonomy, as well as USB Type-C for easy connectivity and recharging.

In terms of pricing, the Surface Pro 4 will be marketed as a premium device, so expect to pay at least the same amount of money as for the Surface Pro 3. The debut could take place in October, when Microsoft could also unveil Windows 10 Mobile and new phones running it.
