Latest cumulative update blamed for more issues

Windows 10 cumulative update KB4013429 was launched on Patch Tuesday alongside all the other updates and security fixes, and although everything seemed to work correctly when the rollout started, it now looks like quite a lot of users are hitting errors because of this release.

First and foremost, it’s worth noting that there are substantially fewer users experiencing failed installation issues with this cumulative update than before, but this doesn’t mean they don’t exist.

A post on the Microsoft Community forums reveals that the typical installation problems that impacted the previous cumulative updates persist in the case of KB4013429 as well.

“Tried to download Cumulative Update window 10 KB4013429 but before completion it says couldn't complete the updates then it said Undoing changes and Don't turn off computer.  Could someone help me please?” user reilee#98 asks.

Crashing apps

Then, there are other problems, also posted on Microsoft’s own forums (1, 2, 3). One Windows 10 adopter complains that installing the latest cumulative update fails with error 0x800F0922, while SmockonFU explains that both Internet Explorer and File Explorer appear to be broken down after KB4013429 - note that there’s a widespread issue with a different Windows 10 update that was released this March, and the symptoms appear to be the same, including crashing apps and broken OS features.

And last but not least, there are several users saying that Windows DVD Player no longer launches after updating systems with the March patches, and once again cumulative update KB4013429 is the one being blamed for this.

The only workaround if you’re really sure that KB4013429 is at fault for the problems you see on your Windows 10 PC is to completely remove the update, but keep in mind that this could leave your system exposed. KB4013429 is a cumulative update that also includes security patches, so without it, Windows 10 remains vulnerable to exploits targeting these unpatched flaws.
