Domino’s UK pulling its app from the store

You’ve probably heard that the eagerly awaited Surface Phone could be delayed until late 2017 or early 2018, and now it turns out that there’s more bad news for Windows Phone users.

Domino’s, which is currently one of the largest and most popular pizza and restaurant chains in the world, is pulling the UK version of its app from the store, with no plans to build a Windows 10 or Windows 10 Mobile flavor.

While it’s not yet clear whether the other regional versions of the app will be pulled too, the chances are that this is going to happen too, as Domino’s seems to be looking to leave the platform completely.

In emails submitted to registered users of the Domino’s app in the United Kingdom and Ireland, the company informs of its decision but provides no reasons at all.

“It’s with great regret that we must send this email… We’ll cut to the chase. We’re closing our mobile app on all Windows devices!” the message, which ends in a sad smiley face, reads.

0.1 percent market share by 2020

Most likely, Domino’s is leaving Windows Phone for the same reason as everyone else: the dropping market share is living proof that investing in an app for Windows mobile devices could not make sense as far as costs are concerned.

Domino’s is not the only company that has left the store in the last few months. Amazon and PayPal also pulled their apps from Windows Phone recently and recommended users to access the web-based version should they want to continue using their services. The same thing can be done in Domino’s case too, although we all know that an app comes in handy so much handier.

Unfortunately, Domino’s is unlikely to be the last name leaving Windows Phone. IDC is estimating that Windows Phone would continue dropping in the coming years to eventually reach 0.1 percent market share in 2020.
