14 DAY TRIAL // One of the stars of this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) is going to be Nokia's legendary 3310 feature phone, which will be revived as per HMD Global's request.
However, a Nokia 3310 launched many years ago would not be as appealing today. People are using their phones these days for many things like email, messages, reading, gaming, video chat, and other activities.
The good news is the folks over at HMD Global are trying to make the modern Nokia 3310 more suitable for today's consumers. Still, that doesn't mean that by purchasing the new Nokia 3310 you'll be getting a budget-friendly smartphone.
Our previous report on the modern Nokia 3310 included some tidbits about the upcoming product such as the fact that it will remain a feature phone and that it will come in multiple color options.
Today, part of that information was confirmed by yours truly Evan Blass. According to him, the new Nokia 3310 will be indeed a feature phone that will run Series 30+ UI (user interface).
A mashup of the original model and Nokia 150
Aside from the fact that it will be available in multiple colors, the modern Nokia 3310 might also feature swappable faceplates. Unfortunately, that doesn't confirm whether or not the phone will come with removable battery, one of the most requested features by fans.
Design-wise, Blass says it will look like a “mashup of old 3310 and the new [Nokia] 150.” Also, HMD Global plans to replace the monochrome display of the original model with a color panel, possibly of slightly larger size.
The modern Nokia 3310 will be officially unveiled at Mobile World Congress on February 26, along with two other handsets: Nokia 3 and Nokia 5.
According to sources familiar with HMD's plans, the modern Nokia 3310 will be available for purchase for just €59. We've also learned the phone will be exclusive to Carphone Warehouse in the UK.
