For the collection Cyclops, about the strength of womanhood

Fashion shows can turn into the strangest things, as the designers aim to showcase their creations in the most original and artsy manner possible. Still, Rick Owens’ latest show, at the Paris Fashion Week 2015, managed to stand out.

That’s not an easy feat, but Owens is known both for his ability to get people’s attention and for the fact that he always includes a powerful message in his shows.

Models wear clothes, and other models on the catwalk

This year, Owens’ collection was called Cyclops and was meant to be about the strength of womanhood. To best render that idea to the public, the designer sent out models on the catwalk wearing his creations, which was the most obvious thing.

He also sent them wearing other models, as the photos in the gallery below will show.

In other words, the models had other models strapped on their bodies. Some girls carried other girls on their back, others in the front, either face forward or in what must have been a very awkward variation of 69.

Owens managed to become the talk of the entire industry after pulling this off, but if you know anything about him, you know this isn’t his boldest move by far. Last year, he sent male models out on the catwalk in outfits that had holes in the crotch area, and they weren’t wearing underpants.

Before that, he made headlines when he punched a former model friend who had walked up during his show holding a hand-made protest sign.

A message about womanhood and female strength

As you can imagine, the idea of sending models wearing models out has turned out to be the delight of the Internet, which is probably a risk Owens knew he’d have to take.

As strange a sight as this turned out to be, it served a very good purpose, he told the media after the show, the Daily Mail informs.

“[The Cyclops is] a mythological creature, formidable with focused vision. Who among us wouldn’t appreciate that kind of description?” he said. “When applied to women, I see that focused vision being more about nourishment, sisterhood, motherhood, and regeneration. Women raising women, women becoming women and women supporting women. The world of women I know little about and can only attempt to amuse in my own small way.”

Does it make more sense now?
