14 DAY TRIAL // MKVToolNix developer Moritz Bunkus announced the release and immediate availability for download of MKVToolNix 14.0.0, a major release of the open-source and cross-platform MKV (Matroska) manipulation app.
MKVToolNix 14.0.0 "Flow" is here just one month after the MKVToolNix 13.0.0 "The Juggler" release, and it looks like it adds a great number of new features and enhancements, along with numerous bug fixes and some build system changes. First off, the application is now officially translated into the Romanian language.
"Changes for package maintainers: a new translation of the programs to Romanian (ro.po) has been added. There are two other minor changes you should be aware of," said Moritz Bunkus in the release announcement. "This is a reminder that certain features having been deprecated since v9.7.0."
Additionally, some features will be removed from MKVToolNix in the first release of the app in 2018. These include the mkvmerge options "–identify-for-gui", "–identify-verbose", "–identification-format verbose", and "–identify-for-mmg", as well as the old and proprietary format used for option files on all command line tools.
What's new in MKVToolNix 14.0.0
Highlights of the MKVToolNix 14.0.0 release include support for AAC files with 960 samples per frame in mkvmerge, support for Wave64 files in mkvmerge's WAV reader, support for chapters in WebM files in MKVToolNix GUI's chapter editor, and support for tags in WebM files in mkvpropedit. Starting with this release, the minimum required Boost version is 1.49.0 for building MKVToolNix.
The chapter editor in MKVToolNix GUI now has a new function in the "additional modifications" dialog, which can be used for calculating and setting the end timestamps of chapters. Also, MKVToolNix 14.0.0 has lots of bug fixes that improve the AVC/h.264 and HEVC/h.265 parsers, MPEG PS and MPEG TS readers, the DocBook detection, and MKVToolNix GUI's multiplex tool.
