MKVToolNix developer Moritz Bunkus is pleased to announce today the release and immediate availability of MKVToolNix 13.0.0, a new stable update of the open-source and cross-platform MKV (Matroska) manipulation utility.

MKVToolNix 13.0.0 comes about one month after version 12.0.0 to add a handful of new features, and fix a bunch of bugs that have been reported by users during this period. The new version of MKVToolNix has been dubbed by the developer as "The Juggler" and it was built for GNU/Linux, macOS and Microsoft Windows platforms.

"Here’s v13.0.0 of MKVToolNix. It contains a few small enhancements and a handful of bug fixes. Nothing major this time around, though I still recommend everyone to update," says Moritz Bunkus in the release notes. "There have been no additional changes since v12.0.0 that package maintainers should be aware of."

What's new in MKVToolNix 13.0.0

Prominent new features of MKVToolNix 13.0.0 include the ability for mkvmerge's MPEG TS reader to output information about multiple programs during verbose and JSON identification, as container properties, the ability to close tabs in MKVToolNix GUI by pressing the middle mouse button.

A new "program" column was added to the tracks list of the multiplex tool, which contains the service name for TV stations (e.g. Arte HD) for certain container types like MPEG transport streams which consist of multiple programs, along with an improved dialog that asks users what to do with dropped files to remember  the previous choice.

As usual, the mkvmerge component received the most attention in this update, improving the MP4, MPEG PS and MPEG TS readers, the JSON identification, as well as the CLPI and MPLS parsers. A couple of issues were also fixed for the MKVToolNix GUI, and the Debian/Ubuntu packages were improved.
