The summer of 2015 is proving a very tough one on celebrity couples, with some of the most popular golden couples in showbiz announcing their divorce in just a couple of months. Add another to the list now: after decades together, Kermit The Frog and Miss Piggy are done.
Kermit broke the news on the Television Critics Association panel, with confirmation coming later on Facebook, in the form of a joint statement.
You can see it below, as it was displayed on Piggy and Kermit’s pages.
Piggy and Kermit are done, but was there any cheating involved?
We include both versions of the statement because, if you read Kermit’s carefully, you will see that he disagrees with the official line of this being a “mutual” decision. It was Miss Piggy who did the dumping and he had no other choice but to go with it.
They will, of course, continue to work together because they have no other choice, but this here is the first sign that the split isn’t even close to as amicable as the parties involved would have us believe.
Which brings us to the question: do you think there was cheating involved? Could this breakup too turn into a huge scandal, possibly involving a nanny or some other hired help? These are questions that people online, especially on social media, are hoping to have answered really soon.
So far, all shocking divorce announcements have come with plenty of reports of infidelity. Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton broke up and the tabs said both cheated; Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner split probably because he slept with the kids’ nanny, and Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale decided to go apart after 13 years and there’s talk a nanny might be involved as well.
With Piggy and Kermit, we’ll have to wait to see what might have transpired before the breakup; the next few days should bring up some kind of dirt in the tabloids.
Split announced, the Internet is gutted
In between speculating on the “real” cause for the split, many fans online are taking the time to express their feelings of sadness and disappointment in the announcement.
There are also those who believe or hope this is just a shameless plug for the new “Muppet” series premiering on ABC this fall. After all, staging marital drama has been done before to drum up interest in a new show, so why should this one be an exception?
Those who take the split announcement at face value are genuinely saddened by it, and that includes celebrities. You can see samples of some of the Twitter reactions to the split below.

I'm actually really sad that Miss Piggy and Kermit have split up. Hoping it's just a publicity gimmick for the new Muppets show.
