Don't expect any M-rated situations in the new game

Telltale Games has shared a few more details about its upcoming Minecraft: Story Mode adventure experience. The new title, made in partnership with Minecraft creator Mojang, retains the tough choices seen in Telltale's The Walking Dead, but, of course, it doesn't focus on the M-rated violence seen in those games.

Telltale garnered a pretty loyal following with tongue-in-cheek adventure experiences like Sam & Max or Strongbad, but it really gained mainstream appeal with dramatic titles like The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Game of Thrones, or Tales from the Borderlands.

The next major project from Telltale is a partnership with Minecraft creator Mojang, in the form of Minecraft: Story Mode.

The new Minecraft experience won't focus on violence

While talking with The Verge, Telltale confirms that Minecraft: Story Mode will be a more mainstream experience, especially since players of the actual game are pretty young and impressionable.

As such, Telltale fans shouldn't expect the same amount of intense violence seen in The Walking Dead or Game of Thrones. However, they will still be served some tough choices and dramatic situations.

"While the presentation of a choice may not be as M-rated as you’d find in Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead, the element of empathy and the pressures of guilt will still be present. [There will be] absolutely devastating, perilous situations that might mean leaving one friend behind in order to save another," Telltale explains.

Even so, the general tone will be a bit lighthearted, similar to Tales from the Borderlands, according to the studio, so players won't always obsess about their choices.

Minecraft: Story Mode focuses on protagonist Jesse and his friends, who need to find the Order of the Stone and stop a cataclysmic event from happening in their world. Telltale previously explained that players could choose between male and female versions of Jesse, as well as different skin colors.
