14 DAY TRIAL // Miley Cyrus has had her fair share of negative media attention since she ditched her Hannah Montana public persona and affirmed herself as her own woman person: in her latest interview, with Paper Magazine, she identified as genderqueer and came out as bisexual.
Miley is determined to shatter all preconceived notions about herself, but she’s also committed to making life better for animals. She has continued to adopt from shelters and has been a vegetarian for some time.
So PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has just presented her with their biggest distinction.
Miley Cyrus beats Ariana Grande for top honors
Miley Cyrus is PETA’s sexiest celebrity vegetarian for the year 2015, the group announces in a post on the official webpage.
The decision wasn’t necessarily an easy one, but at the end of the day, it was clear that only Miley could get top honors. Competition was fierce from fellow pop star Ariana Grande, who has about 1 year of turning vegan, Sen. Cory Brooker who went from vegetarian to vegan, and Richard Linklater, who has been a vegetarian for 30 years.
“After hearing the heartrending song written for her beloved blowfish and reading about her unflinching dedication to animal rights and her decision to go vegan, PETA knew that Miley Cyrus was [it],” the group writes.
Indeed, a video of Miley performing a song about her dead blowfish and nearly not being able to finish it because she was crying so hard went viral just recently. Miley loves her pets dearly, there’s no doubt about that - and she has many of them around, including a new adopted kitty with her own Instagram page.
Miley Cyrus, the surprise role model
As noted above, Miley got a lot of flak for her transition from child / teen star to adult star, mostly because it involved plenty of shock tactics and a new image her fans were simply not used to.
However, despite claims from celebrity pundits that these wouldn’t get her far and that she would eventually see her career take a complete nosedive, Miley is still around. And doing very well for herself, thankyouverymuch.
In recent months, she’s reinvented herself again, aligning herself to various social causes that are getting increased media attention. She once said she was not a feminist, but she identifies as one now and has even let her armpit grow as a sign of protest.
By coming out as bisexual and speaking of being genderqueer, she has also earned the support of the LGBT community.
Miley Cyrus is a role model again. PETA seems to think so too.
