Congratulations are in order for Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, who became husband and wife over the 4th of July weekend, for real this time. People magazine is confirming the news through reliable sources, but official word from either of their publicists is still pending.

Rumors had them married as of late 2014, after they posted a photo on social media on New Year’s wishing everyone a Happy New Year, signed “The Kutchers.” Neither tried to deny the reports in subsequent interviews, so everyone assumed they had been accurate.

A very private ceremony

Mila and Ashton starred together on the Fox sitcom “That ‘70s Show” but remained good friends until after his marriage to Demi Moore fell apart. They started dating in 2012 and tried to keep the relationship out of the tabloids for several months, mostly by insisting that they were just good friends.

It is believed they lied because the divorce from Demi was turning nasty, and he didn’t want to provide her with ammunition in the fight. A short while after it became final, he and Mila went public.

However, they continued to strive for anonymity, as much as two celebrities of their status could hope to have. They became engaged in February 2014 and had a baby, daughter Wyatt Isabelle, in October.

People says that the wedding took place this weekend and that it was a very small and private affair, in keeping with their desire to do whatever they can to stay out of the spotlight when they’re not working.

More details should probably emerge in the following days or, if not, whenever either has a new movie coming out. They may be private in their day-to-day life, but if they’re sat across the likes of Ellen DeGeneres, on a talk show, they’re known to dish some details about their personal life.

A very good lie

As noted above, word that the two had tied the knot started making the rounds in January 2015. Since then, both Mila and Ashton did several interviews to promote their respective projects, and neither even tried to say outright, “no, we are not married.”

A denial would have probably not put the rumor to rest for good, but it would have helped in keeping it in check, at least for a while. On the other hand, their approach (of laughing coyly and saying stuff that translated into a soft “maybe”) only helped fuel the flame.

In March, Mila stopped by James Corden’s show to promote the critical and commercial flop “Jupiter Ascending.” He flat-out asked her if she was Mrs. Kutcher and she played it off in such a way as to come across as embarrassed at having had her secret exposed.

This interview was considered solid confirmation of the wedding rumors - so solid that some fans even lashed out against Corden for “outing” Mila this way in public.
