It seems that the development team working on Mighty No. 9, which is led by Keiji Inafune, might be getting ready to announce that the video game is at the moment delayed once again to an unspecified date in 2016.

The title was initially set to be offered in April of this year and the studio pushed it back to September 15 in order to make sure that it delivers the quality gamers are expecting from a spiritual successor to Mega-Man.

The information about the new Mighty No. 9 delay to 2016 comes from Game Informer, but no official source has yet confirmed it, although it seems that Deep Silver and Comcept might make a statement about the date during the coming days.

The launch date for the game has also been changed on both Gamestop and Amazon, where it is now listed as December 31, 2016, which is clearly a placeholder but also a sign that the delay is probably real.

Mighty No. 9 is at the moment set to be offered on the PC, the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, the Wii U from Nintendo, the Vita and the 3DS.

It's possible that the delay might be linked to just some of the platforms and that the core PC experience will be offered this year, with the rest coming in 2016.

Mighty No. 9 is one of the biggest crowdfunded video game projects

The fact that Keiji Inafune is leading the development of the title means that there are a lot of fans of Mega-Man who are looking forward to seeing how the creator of the series can interpret it for a new generation.

Recently, those who have backed the project on Kickstarter have been critical of the Comcept studio and of the core mechanics that they plan to introduce in the coming experience.

The new Red Ash: The Indelible Legend crowdfunding process, which will use many of the same characters, has not been successful, and only the presence of a third-party publisher saved it.

Mighty No. 9 is an ambitious project and it will be interesting to see whether the final product, regardless of whether it arrives this year or in 2016, will manage to deliver the quality that fans are expecting.
