MidnightBSD's Lucas Holt had the great pleasure of announcing this past weekend the release of version 0.7 of his BSD-based computer operating system, which adds numerous new features and under-the-hood improvements.

According to the release notes, MidnightBSD 0.7 is a maintenance and feature release that fixes issues in many of the distribution's core components, including the kernel, expat library, OpenSSH, routed, and Sendmail. A TCP Reassembly resource exhaustion bug has been fixed as well in this new point release of MidnightBSD.

There are also several enhancements, especially to the ZFS file system, which received support for TRIM (enabled by default), faster creation of new ZFS pools, support for monitoring ZFS TRIM stats, and LZ4 compression support. The libc library received improvements; the wait6 system call has been added, and many other tools were updated.

"I’m happy to announce the availability of MidnightBSD 0.7 RELEASE," says Lucas Holt." This release is primarily for stabilization, ZFS and mport package tool enhancements. [...] This release is dedicated to Midnight the cat. He passed away this year after a battle with cancer."
