The company is also trying to increase sales

Phil Spencer, who leads the Xbox One division at Microsoft, has been recently accused by some fans of the home console that he is prematurely accepting that his platform will not be able to get ahead of the rival PlayStation 4 when it comes to overall sales.

The executive has taken to Twitter in order to dispel any such notions and to make clear that his team was focused on delivering the best possible experience for gamers rather than on competing with the Sony platform.

For the coming month, Spencer says that the Xbox One will not actively try to improve its sales but it will increase its appeal by delivering a new user experience, which is built around the Windows 10 operating system, and by introducing the long-requested backwards compatibility feature.

When it comes to actual video games, Microsoft is also planning to deliver two major exclusives, Rise of the Tomb Raider from developer Crystal Dynamics, which offers a new Lara Croft adventure, and Halo 5: Guardians, which expands the universe created around Master Chief.

The coming holiday shopping season is very important for the Xbox One and the company is also delivering some bundles that pack the home console with some of the biggest titles of the moment.

The PlayStation 4 is dropping its price

Microsoft also correctly anticipated that Sony was looking to cut 50 dollars or Euro from the price tag of its own home console in order to make it more attractive.

The Japanese company is also emphasizing the extra value added to the PlayStation 4 via the new 3.0 firmware update, which is designed to introduce more social elements and options to share video on Twitter and YouTube.

Sony is also aiming to deliver extra content associated with major titles like Destiny and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.

Both companies are saying that the competition between the two devices is a healthy one for the industry and both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 have managed to deliver bigger sales numbers than their older siblings did at the same point during their own life.

It will be interesting to see which of the two manages to lead on the North American market during the coming NPD Group reveal for the month of September.
