It doesn't mean that it's going to happen

Microsoft would be willing to let the Banjo and Kazooie characters appear in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. from Nintendo, according to Xbox's boss Phil Spencer.

The younger generation probably doesn’t remember the Banjo-Kazooie game from Rare released initially for Nintendo 64. On the other hand, the older gamers consider Banjo-Kazooie one of the best games ever created, in terms of graphics and level design.

It was later released in a collection of old remastered games called Rare Replay and launched for Xbox 360 back in 2008. To this day there are players and fans that are requesting a sequel, but for now, the developers remained silent.

Just because they say yes, doesn’t mean it’s going to happen

Since Rare is now part of Microsoft, any characters appearing in another title need to go through an approval process. Microsoft has been a lot more open in the past few years, and Xbox boss Phil Spencer confirmed on Twitter that they would allow Banjo and Kazooie appear in the upcoming Super Smash Bros.

He was also quick to add that just because they agree in principle; it doesn’t mean that it’s going to happen. In fact, it doesn’t even mean that Nintendo and Microsoft spoke about it, but the truth is that the two characters would make a great fit.

As for Super Smash Bros., very little is known about the new game. Only a short teaser was made available to the public, and we know that it’s coming to Switch, but that’s about it. Rumors say that Link from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be present in the game.

Maybe all this commotion regarding some old characters will prompt Microsoft and Rare to give the series another try. The market is very different, but enough time has passed so that a new Banjo-Kazooie game will feel fresh.
