After so many years, Microsoft preparing transparent tile

If you’re a long-time Windows Phone user, you certainly love tiles and that’s no surprise given that they not only provide you with a glimpse at valuable app information but they also look good on the Start screen.

And because their appearance is so important, Microsoft rolled out transparent tile support in Windows Phone 8.1, but for some reason or another, the company itself left behind some of its apps which continued to use solid colors live tiles.

Skype is one of these, despite the fact that the VoIP client is currently being used by many of those who are still on Windows phones. And while there were ways to set transparent live tiles even for those apps that didn’t have them natively, it’s always much handier to have them from the get-go.

Notifications improvements and transparent live tile

Microsoft knows this and is currently working on bringing a transparent live tile for Skype on Windows 10 Mobile, the firm revealed in a recent Q&A session on the Skype community.

Asked whether it’s looking into ways to improve Skype notifications in the future, Microsoft confirmed that it does, adding that live tiles would also be improved.

“This is a really interesting area that we are looking into. We love Windows 10 AU and are really looking to use all the new capabilities it offers. So short answer is yes, we are looking into having a richer experience for notifications.  Regarding transparent tiles, we are currently working on it and you should be seeing it in a future release,” Microsoft said.

So there you go, Skype will no longer be available on Windows Phone, but those lucky enough to have a phone that supports Windows 10 Mobile will be allowed not only to use the app but also to set a live tile on their Start screen. Better late than never, we guess.
