14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft kicked off the Windows 10 Mobile rollout for Windows Phone devices yesterday, but since only some devices were included in this first release, everyone hoped that the company was working on a second wave as well.
This doesn’t seem to be the case though, as Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, confirmed in a short tweet that there won’t be a second wave for Windows 10 Mobile. In other words, while the release takes place gradually across the world for phones on different carriers and in different regions, other devices won’t be added to the supported list.
No staged rollout for Windows 10 Mobile
Previously, it was believed that Microsoft would release Windows 10 Mobile to Windows Phone devices in stages, with some to get the upgrade at first while the rest were expected to receive the new bits at a later time.
But with Microsoft leaving behind devices with 512 MB of RAM, it’s very clear that a second wave is no longer needed, so the models that the company confirmed yesterday are very likely to be the only ones getting the upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile.
The list includes the following models: Lumia 1520, 930, 640, 640XL, 730, 735, 830, 532, 535, 540, 635 1GB, 636 1GB, 638 1GB, 430, 435, BLU Win HD w510u, BLU Win HD LTE x150q, and MCJ Madosma Q501.
Without a doubt, the biggest disappointment is that devices with 512 MB of RAM are being left behind, despite the fact that Microsoft originally planned to release Windows 10 Mobile to all devices, no matter their hardware specifications. 512 MB models were believed to get the new OS with certain limitations because of their hardware capabilities, but in the end, it turns out that they aren’t getting it at all.
Customers who purchased such devices still hope for a change of mind at Microsoft, but without a second wave, it’s very unlikely for this to happen.
