The company will display messages to convince you

Windows 10 comes with Edge, the new default browser developed not only to replace Internet Explorer but also to help the company compete against rivals such as Google Chrome and Firefox.

And because it was really designed to be a better competitor to browsers that are already on the market, Edge includes lots of improvements, while others, such as extension support, are currently on their way.

But the promise of a great browser doesn't seem to be enough to convince users not to jump ship, so the company is now looking into new ways to do that, including some messages displayed when a browser change is very close to taking place.

As we've reported to you recently, Microsoft has added new messages in leaked build of Windows 10 that prompt users to continue running Edge as the default browser when trying to switch to Chrome, Firefox, or Opera. While this change is still not available in stable builds of Windows 10, it could be, which makes some people wonder if Microsoft really needs to come down to such aggressive tactics to keep users on Edge.

Microsoft: Edge is just the right choice

In a statement for The Inquirer, Microsoft says that these messages are being used to show users that they are about to abandon the best choice for Windows 10 as far as browsers are concerned, but it emphasizes that everyone can still choose what app they want.

“We believe that Microsoft Edge offers a superior browsing experience for the new OS. These notifications were created to provide people with quick, easy information that can help them get to know these experiences better. That said, with Windows 10 you can easily choose the default browser and search engine of your choice,” a company spokesperson is quoted as saying.

Edge will be offered as a universal app, working not only on desktops but also on mobile devices, with the same features and looks to be offered across all devices. Several significant updates are already planned, including support for extensions.
