Apple used its WWDC 2018 conference to announce a series of changes for macOS, including updates for the Mac App Store, which will be expanding with support from several large software companies.

One of them is Microsoft, as the Redmond-based giant and long-term Apple rival will release Office 365 in the Mac App Store, making it easier for users to download the productivity suite on their PCs.

While at first glance this sounds like something that Microsoft should never do, making products available for customers regardless of the platform is part of the company’s new culture. With this release, Apple users will be allowed to install the entire suite easily with just a click, and this is more of a win-win release, as it makes it faster for everyone to migrate to Office and Microsoft can boost the number of customers.

Previously, OneNote was the only Microsoft application that was available for download from the Mac App Store.

Apple brought iTunes to the Microsoft Store

Today’s news isn’t surprising in any way, especially because Apple itself also agreed to release software in Microsoft’s own app store. Last year at the Microsoft Build developer conference, Apple announced a Microsoft Store version of iTunes, which essentially makes it easier for iPhone users to sync their devices with Windows 10 PCs.

This new flavor of iTunes was finally launched earlier this year, bringing the same features as the desktop version of the application. Additionally, users of Windows 10 with S Mode (previously known as Windows 10 S) can also sync their iPhones with PCs, as their version of the operating system is restricted to Microsoft Store apps, therefore installing iTunes on the desktop isn’t possible.

In addition to Office 365, the Mac App Store will also get a bunch of other top software products, including Adobe’s Lightroom CC.
