Redmond launches trade-in program for Surface customers

Microsoft is once again trying to convince Apple customers to switch sides and go for a Surface, this time with a trade-in program that allows MacBook and iPad owners to exchange their devices for store credit when purchasing one of its models.

The company runs this new campaign in the United States and Canada, and every Apple MacBook and iPad are part of the promo, though it's worth knowing that the amount of money you receive depends on a series of factors, including the condition of the device you agree to trade in.

Microsoft explains that the offer is available until July 31 while supplies last, but given that most Surface models are included, that shouldn’t be a problem. This means you can trade-in your MacBook or iPad for a Surface Pro 4, a Surface Pro, a Surface Book, or a Surface Laptop.

Your MacBook must be working

The device that you exchange for store credit must power on, the battery must hold charge and not be required to be plugged in to operate. Microsoft says that your device should come with no missing components and include original chargers and accessories, with no physical damages like broken displays, liquids, or other modifications.

Microsoft used this occasion to show how easy it is to migrate from an Apple MacBook to a Surface, explaining that the Surface Migration Assistant app does all the job for you.

The Surface Migration Assistant is an automatic file transfer solution that moves your music, photos, and videos from a MacBook to a Surface, though it's worth knowing that since you're changing operating systems, finding app alternatives is a thing that you need to do on your own.

The trade-in program is not available online, but only in physical Microsoft Stores, so you can contact the nearest store to receive more information and get an offer for your MacBook or iPad if you're truly committed to purchasing a Surface device.
