Redmond expands Office Insider program to Mac users

Microsoft has just announced that the Office Insider program that allows users to try out early versions of its productivity suite has been expanded to the Mac version too.

This means that Apple customers running OS X and the Mac version of Office can register for the program too and receive access to early builds of the application.

“Mac users can also get early access to Office innovations. It’s simple to get started. Just opt-in to the Office Insider build from the Microsoft Auto Update (MAU) tool on your Mac,” Microsoft has said in an announcement today.

Obviously, while the Office Insider program is a neat way to try out the latest features developed by Microsoft, it still requires your involvement, so users have to provide feedback and help Microsoft improve its software before specific tools are released to the general public.

New update today

Microsoft explains what the Office Insider program is all about:

“As an Insider, you get first-hand access to the latest innovations, putting you on the inside track for all things Office. And when you become an Office Insider, you are joining a community of like-minded power users. With your partnership, we can ensure a high quality Office experience for millions of Office users worldwide.”

Based on the same concept of the Windows Insider program, the Office Insider effort is yet to gain as much traction as its Windows sibling, but Microsoft is yet to provide any adoption figures on how well this new initiative is going.

The company ships small updates to Office testers every once in a while, and the latest release happened today, when the development team fixed two widespread bugs in the previous version. Major updates are yet to arrive, though, but the Office Insider program continues, and more breaking changes are expected in the coming months.
