Even though Microsoft is reading the Windows 10 for PC official launch, which is set to take place on July 29, the Redmond-based company is working hard to keep its apps and services on par with the competition's.

The latest apps to receive updates are Word and Excel. Both these apps have received the same update, but only on iOS platform.

iOS fans who already have these two apps, or at least one of them, installed on their devices will be pleased to know Microsoft has added a few new features and lots of improvements.

According to the official changelog, the update brings bi-directional and complex script languages, which means that both Word and Excel now support bi-directional text editing and complex script for Arabic, Hebrew, and Thai.

Furthermore, developers confirmed that users would now be able to view protected documents. You can simply open and view documents that have access permissions applied to them, no other requirements needed.

Easier sharing, integration with Outlook

The update is also meant to make sharing easier. You will now be able to invite people to edit a document and grant them permissions, all from within the app.

Integration with Outlook has been implemented too, so users can now send a document as an attachment in Outlook. Additionally, developers added the option to directly edit a document attached to or linked from an Outlook email message.

Microsoft also highlighted other recent improvements such as new storage options like open, edit, and save your work to iCloud (requires iOS 8).

New templates have been added as well so users can create better-looking Word documents more quickly by using one of them.

Last but not least, Word add-ins enhance users documents and help increase productivity (only on iPad, requires iOS 8.2 or newer).

You can now download Word and Excel for iOS for free via App Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices running iOS 7.1 or newer.
