14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has just rolled out an update for the Windows 10 store that brings several new subtle changes that should not only improve the interface of the app but also add new authentication methods to block unauthorized purchases.
As you probably know, Microsoft rolls out app updates for Windows 10 every once in a while, but as per the company's new strategy, no release notes have been provided, which makes it impossible for users installing them to know what they get.
But today's updates include changes that are more visible than the ones before, so everyone's recommended to get the new Windows Store app as soon as possible.
Visual changes and security improvements
The Windows Store now comes with a change in the way app listings are displayed. Every single listing now uses as background the color of the app's icon, as you can see in the photos attached to this article.
Evernote uses green, VLC uses orange, and so on, so not only that the store now looks better but this could also help make everything more intuitive because you always know what app you are about to install.
Another important change concerns the control of unauthorized purchases. Users are now allowed to enable PIN or password protection for new downloads, so in case you're trying to get an app from the store, you must input this secret code to make sure that no one else besides you can do that. This option can be enabled and disabled from the settings screen.
The new version of the Windows Store can be downloaded from the store itself, so make sure you force it to check for updates from the “Downloads and updates” section if you're not notified to install it automatically. The update is currently available on Windows 10 RTM too, so both insiders and stable users get the new feature pack.
