Latest build bringing smoother animation for the filter

Windows 10 now comes with its very own blue light filter (only as part of the Windows Insider program), and the latest build brings some improvements that contribute to the overall experience with this new feature.

Before anything else, it’s worth mentioning that the blue light filter is still in its early days in Windows 10 Creators Update preview builds, so it is really important for Microsoft to get every little improvement right before it makes its way to public users.

Windows 10 build 15014 introduces small refinements to the animation that users see when screen settings are adjusted, and Microsoft says that this is just the beginning of a longer series of improvements that should be released to users before the Creators Update launches in April.

“Based on your very passionate feedback, we’ve adjusted the animation when lowering blue light to be a bit smoother. We’ve also made some polish tweaks to Blue Light Settings with more coming soon,” Microsoft said in the release notes of build 15014.

Current implementation of the blue light filter

At this point, the blue light filter, which according to Microsoft “helps Windows show warmer colors to make it easier to sleep at night,” comes with straightforward options to adjust color temperature, set up a schedule, or use it all automatically if location is activated to have the filter enabled at sunset.

The blue light filter does work kind of flawlessly at this point, and we’ve already enabled it on our computers here at Softpedia that are running insider builds, and there’s a good chance that the majority of insiders are using it too.

In fact, the built-in blue light filter makes third-party apps, such as the super-popular f.lux, pretty unnecessary, mostly because you get exactly the essential features that reduce the amount of blue coming from the screen.

It remains to be seen how Microsoft plans to improve the filter even more before the Creators Update launches in April, but at this point, it looks like the company is heading in the right direction with this feature.
