Word, Excel, and PowerPoint receive updates today

Microsoft has just shipped updates for the Windows 10 version of Office, but just like usual, the company forgot to provide any change log to let us know what is new in this release.

Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint received improvements this morning, so in case you are already on Windows 10 and running the productivity suite, fire up the store and download the updates as soon as possible.

As far as the changes that Microsoft probably made in this version, expect bug fixes and performance enhancements, so in case there was something wrong in the previous releases, it should no longer be there after the update. If it does, you can always send feedback to the company and hope to get an update in the next updates.

Touch-optimized versions

These free versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint can be downloaded in the Windows 10 store and are specifically developed to be used on devices running Microsoft’s new operating system.

The company shipped early versions of the new Office suite earlier this year in preview stage, giving users the option to try them out before the public launch. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for Windows 10 are designed as universal app, so the same look and features are being offered not only on PCs, but also on smartphones running Windows 10 Mobile.

This is part of a broader Microsoft plan to bring together its devices and offering a free copy of Office is clearly a big step in that direction.

Some features that are available in the desktop version of Office are missing in the touch-optimized builds, but this was something to be expected given the fact that the latter is offered free of charge.

But nevertheless, they are still worth a try, so you can download Word, Excel, or PowerPoint for Windows 10 right now in the store. Keep in mind that an Office 365 subscription is needed for editing.
