Microsoft has released a new update to the Pix camera app on iOS, adding a couple of new features and several fixes to enhance performance on Apple’s platform.

Now at version 1.1.4, the Microsoft Pix Camera app can automatically recognize and scan blackboards, with this feature landing in addition to the previous support for whiteboards, documents, and business cards.

This was actually one of Microsoft’s key focuses, with the Pix app now being able to enhance all of the above with effects as soon as they have been scanned.

Additionally, the software giant has added support for rotation to 90 degrees in edit and cropping, giving users a bit more control over their photos. This particular update isn’t such a breaking change, but it is one of the enhancements that could prove to be helpful, especially for those who typically edit their photos after shooting them.

Microsoft says version 1.1.4 also includes some performance improvements but without any specifics in this regard, so we’ll have to take the company’s word for granted. We haven’t noticed any substantial performance increase whatsoever.

Microsoft and app updates for the iPhone

Microsoft improving its iPhone and Android apps is no big surprise, as this is the only way the company can remain relevant in the mobile industry without actually having its own mobile platform. The firm acknowledged the death of Windows phones earlier this month, explaining that there are no new phones or Windows 10 Mobile features on the radar.

In the meantime, Android and iOS continue to rule the mobile world, with Microsoft doing what it knows best and rolling out new features for its apps every once in a while.

Microsoft Pix requires iOS 10 or later and supports the majority of devices, starting with the iPhone 5s and ending with the iPhone X, which at this point isn’t even released.
