Microsoft has just updated Edge browser on iOS with new features that finally make it possible for users to sync their passwords.

Microsoft Edge for the iPhone is still in its early days, so the application receives updates regularly as the company completes development of new features. At the same time, it’s also worth knowing that bugs are crashes are something not entirely unusual, and participants in the testing program shouldn’t use this as their daily browser.

But version 41.3.0 does come with several bug fixes, as well as with support for signing in, with Microsoft explaining that “the added layer of security using two-factor authentication” makes it possible to sync passwords between devices.

Still in private beta testing

Microsoft Edge for iOS is available for users who enroll in Apple’s TestFlight app, so you need to go to this page and provide your Apple ID to be able to try out the browser on your iPhone.

“Access to the Microsoft Edge Preview for iOS is managed via Apple’s TestFlight app. We’ll get you set up in no time, but first we’ll need your Apple ID information. You’ll then receive an email from Apple within 24 hours with further instructions,” Microsoft explains.

Seeing Microsoft so committed to improving Edge on iOS and Android is certainly a bit unexpected given the browser still lacks several major features even on desktops, but this push is part of the company’s strategy of making all of its apps and services available to users of rival platforms.

With Edge on iOS and Android, users can enjoy seamless transition from a Windows 10 PC to their mobile device assuming they’re running the same browser on the desktop computer. Features that are currently being added to Edge have been around for a while for Apple users with Safari and for everyone else with Google Chrome, so it’ll be interesting to see if these improvements make any impact on market share.
