14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft’s offering deep Cortana integration in its new Edge browser, so whenever you browse a website, you can ask the personal assistant to perform a number of tasks for you.
And thanks to a new update released by Microsoft today, Cortana can do even more than that and help you get the best coupons for the products you’re considering buying from a number of retailers.
Basically, whenever you browse a retailer’s website and are looking for new things to buy, Cortana can automatically search online for coupons and display the results in a sidebar. For the moment, this feature only works with few retailers, such as Staples, Macy’s, and best Buy, but more will be added in the coming months.
For this feature, Microsoft joined forces with coupon provide Shopular, which provides the coupon information to Cortana, which then analyzes the data to suit your needs and displays it right in the browser.
Also working for restaurants
This new Edge capability isn’t limited to retailers, though, and Microsoft says that it works smoothly for restaurants as well.
“The feature works similar to Cortana for restaurants we mentioned above. When you visit the site of a supported retailer, Cortana will alert you that there are coupons available for additional discounts. Once you click on the Cortana icon, these offers will be displayed in the right pane within the same window.”
At the same time, Microsoft’s also working on some other feature improvements to Edge, so the browser could soon get tab previews and drag and drop support. Extensions will also land in the app very soon, but Microsoft refuses to provide any timing for this because a simple bug could force the company to push back the release, and such a decision would only lead to more criticism.
Pundits point to October or November as the release date for the new update, so expect it any time in the next couple of months.
