The company could finalize work on RS2 this week

Microsoft is very close to finalizing work on Windows 10 Creators Update (internally known as Redstone 2), and the company is now planning to release the RTM candidate as soon as next week.

According to a new report, Microsoft is likely to begin the sign-off process for Windows 10 RS2 this week and compile the first release candidates for the new OS update. Insiders in the Fast ring will probably get the RTM build next week, in anticipation of retail users who are projected to receive it in early April.

New builds are also projected to go live this week to the Fast ring of the Windows Insider program, but these are unlikely to be RTM candidates, even though they will be very close to the final build that Microsoft would launch in April.

No new features are being developed and the full focus is now on bug fixes, so between the shipping date of the RTM build next week and the public launch of the new OS version, Microsoft also plans to deliver a bunch of fixes that would become available to retail users on day 1.

Possible launch on April 11

The target date for Windows 10 Creators Update appears to be April 11, which is the same day when Microsoft ships Patch Tuesday fixes the next month.

Microsoft will almost certainly include all last-minute fixes in one cumulative update, and given the fact that the firm syncs the release of the Windows 10 Creators Update with Patch Tuesday, it all seems to be just the right time to deliver the fixes that it developed in the meantime.

As we’ve exclusively revealed recently, the Creators Update will go live in stages and PCs will be the first to get it on April 11. Windows 10 Mobile devices will follow shortly after that and it’s believed that the rollout would continue until May 2017 when most of the devices should be able to download it.

Nothing is confirmed so far, but Microsoft is expected to announce the launch date of the Creators Update later this month when more information about the mobile rollout is also likely to be revealed.
