They are already in testing, but little else is known

Microsoft has recently announced its first smartphones powered by Windows 10 Mobile, the Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL and Lumia 550.

All three will be launched on the market by the end of the year, but the Redmond-based company plans to launch even more smartphones in the next couple of months.

We reported earlier today that one of the handsets to be unveiled in Q1 2016 is the Surface Phone, which will focus on productivity features rather than specs.

The Surface Phone will be Microsoft's business flagship smartphone, one that will probably be purchased by Windows Phone fans looking for a business-oriented handset.

But what about those customers who favor specs over everything else? Well, it looks like Microsoft plans to compete with other brands (and ecosystems) with other types of flagship smartphones that will rather focus on specs.

Hopefully, Snapdragon 820 will remain Qualcomm's newest chipset

According to NPU, sources close to Microsoft claim the company plans to launch at least two flagship smartphones next year, which will be equipped with Qualcomm's powerful Snapdragon 820 chipset.

The Snapdragon 820 chipset features a 64-bit Kryo processor manufactured using an advanced 14nm process. It will be complemented by an Adreno 530 graphics processing unit that promises 40% better performance that the current Adreno 430 GPU.

Unfortunately, these two Lumia flagship smartphones won't be available on the market until Q3 2016, which will probably make the Snapdragon 820 CPU a bit old, especially if Qualcomm announces a new chipset in the first half of the year.

The same sources state that Microsoft is already testing these two Lumia flagship smartphones with Snapdragon 820 CPUs, so if everything goes well, we might find out more about them in the coming months.
