Recently, we have told you that Microsoft rolled out an update to select Lumia models in India in order to enable 4G LTE support on these models. The list of updated devices included phones like Lumia 1520, Lumia 1320, Lumia 625 or Lumia 830.

But what if you really like the Lumia 640 XL? Well, until now, Microsoft was only selling the 3G version in the country and since sales were going pretty well, the company decided to launch the 4G LTE model in the near future (as seen at WMPU).

Just like the 3G version, the Lumia 640 XL will arrive with a 5.7-inch IPS LCD multi-touch capacitive touchscreen with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution and 259ppi plus 16M color support.

The powerhouse of the device is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz and fitted with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable up to 128GB via microSD card slot).

On the back resides a 13MP camera with LED flash, while up in front we find a 5MP selfie-centric camera. The handset is sustained by a 3,000 mAh battery which is said to be able to provide up to 31 hours and 13 minutes of talk-time on 2G or 23 hours and 42 minutes on 3G networks. On standby, the phone can last up to 936 hours.

The phone will get Windows 10 Mobile at launch

The phone ships out with the Windows Phone v8.1 operating system out of the box, but as we told you yesterday, Microsoft already confirmed that the Lumia 640 XL would get the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade once it becomes available.

We don’t actually know for sure when Microsoft will officially launch Windows 10 Mobile, but previously it was speculated that the OS would make a debut in September/October, around the time Android M is expected to make an appearance.

However, following the launch of Windows 10 for desktop and laptops, a Microsoft exec in South Africa hinted towards the fact that Windows 10 Mobile might arrive a bit later than expected, within a November time frame.

Anyhow, going back to the Lumia 640 XL with 4G LTE, the phone will probably make it to India soon enough. In the meanwhile, the 3G variant of the phone can be yours for approximately $206 / €188 via Amazon India.
