Users will be able to download them with just a click

Microsoft has been trying for a while to make the Windows Store (now called Microsoft Store) the one destination for everything, so the company is adding new categories for Windows 10 users every once in a while.

Most recently, it appears that the company is experimenting with adding fonts to the Microsoft Store in a move that would make it possible to download new typefaces with just a click, all without having to search online for any other information.

A tweet from user @duckiebr points to Arial Nova already in the Microsoft Store, and by the looks of things, the font is displayed just like a regular UWP app. The font listing comes with a small description, screenshots to see the typeface, and information like compatible devices, with Arial Nova said to be working with PCs, mobile, HoloLens, and Surface Hub.

Installing fonts not yet allowed

Clicking the “Get” button in the Microsoft Store is supposed to download and install the font, though for the time being, the latter part doesn’t seem to be working.

The Install option is grayed out, so most likely Microsoft only allows the download, without enabling users just yet to also install the font. I’ve searched the installed fonts list and Arial Nova is nowhere to be seen.

This could be just a placeholder for the time being as Microsoft is still experimenting with fonts in the Microsoft Store, but it’s pretty clear that the company does want to expand it with more categories, and fonts seem to be the next destination.

There’s a chance fonts make it to the Microsoft Store officially with the release of the Windows 10 Redstone 4 update projected to happen in the spring of 2018. A lot is expected to change until then, so more information on how the Microsoft Store could evolve should become available in the meantime.
