Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 Redstone 2 preview build 14926 for fast ring insiders earlier this week, and it turns out that in addition to the features that the company announced at the time of the release, there are also some other goodies to discover after installing.

Windows Anywhere is a new feature that Microsoft is currently testing, and this new build shows an early implementation, although it doesn’t seem to come with any documentation for the time being, so it’s hard to tell exactly what it does.

On the other hand, WinSuperSite writes that this could be a new implementation of the synchronization features available in Windows 10 and which could get a makeover with the release of Redstone 2 in spring 2017.

Windows Anywhere can be turned on or off in the latest Redstone 2 build and Microsoft only says that this feature helps “sync Windows settings to other devices using an account.” Similar features have been around since Windows 8.1, so Microsoft could very well prepare a rebranding.

To debut in Windows 10 Redstone 2

And while Microsoft isn’t saying exactly what this is all about, a recent job listing for a software engineer provides us with a glimpse into what Windows Anywhere might do when implemented in Windows 10, as Redmond is seeking new workforce to help improve synchronization features.

“The Windows user experience is moving to the cloud. We’re reinventing how users connect to their apps, files, and settings across all their Windows devices. We’re making it possible for your user experience to follow you. We’re passionate about UX and transforming how users interact with our products. As a member of our team you will: Design, develop and perfect new ways of interacting with apps and files across all Windows devices,” the job ad read.

The future builds that Microsoft releases as part of the Insider program are likely to bring some new improvements in this regard before Windows Anywhere eventually makes its public debut in the final version of Windows 10 Redstone 2 due in spring of 2017.
