Improved Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter coming

Microsoft has just announced a new version of its Wireless Display Adapter that comes with several improvements and a smaller price to take on Google’s Chromecast.

First announced in 2014, the Wireless Display Adapter provided customers with options to stream media from a smartphone, tablet, or PC to pretty much any TV with an HDMI port.

Using Miracast and supporting Android and Windows, the device was supposed to create a wireless connection between a smartphone and a TV to watch multimedia content, such as videos and photos, on a bigger screen, without the pain of setting up cables.

In the last few months, Microsoft has been working specifically on improving this first version of the device, so a new Wireless Display Adapter is going to launch soon with different dimensions and a smaller price.

Smaller than the previous model, more appealing price

Specifically, the new model will be a little smaller than the original adapter because Microsoft wanted to make it easier to use on any TV with an HDMI port, as it discovered that, on several TVs, it might be difficult to plug the device because of its dimensions.

Furthermore, the new adapter will cost only $49.95 (€44.85), down $10 (€9) from the price of the original model, with Microsoft saying that it listened to customer feedback in order to find better ways to improve this one.

“It brings the best features and functionality of the first generation while reducing the latency and packing it into a new form factor. It’s still just as easy to setup and use and also allows people to mirror or extend their screen from Miracast-enabled Windows 10 phones, tablets and laptops, including the Surface lineup,” Microsoft explains.

The device will go on sale on March 1 and will be available in the Microsoft Store, but also at several online retailers in the United States.
