14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has pulled Windows 10 October 2018 Update due to major bugs experienced by users, including one that’s leading to the removal of certain user files.
Users are no longer allowed to download the October 2018 Update from Windows Update, and Microsoft says that the rollout stays on hold until the investigation comes to an end.
“We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating,” the software giant says.
A workaround for the file deletion issue hasn’t been provided, but Microsoft recommends users to not install the October 2018 Update if it has already been downloaded.
“If you have manually downloaded the Windows 10 October 2018 Update installation media, please don’t install it and wait until new media is available. We will provide an update when we resume rolling out the Windows 10 October 2018 Update to customers,” the company adds.

The Redmond-based software giant also advises impacted customers to get in touch with its support teams for further assistance. The following contact options are offered:

It’s not yet known when the rollout is projected to resume, but given that the company begins its October Patch Tuesday cycle next week, this would be a good time for the new OS feature update to re-become available to everyone.
In the meantime, you should, by all means, avoid installing the October 2018 Update. If your files have gone missing, you can try this workaround to recover them, though there’s no guarantee it’ll work in every case.
