Hints of new Microsoft phone found in the Microsoft Store

The Surface Phone has been nothing more than just a dream for Microsoft and Windows Phone fans, but as it turns out, this dream is getting closer to coming true as the software giant might be secretly working on a new mobile device.

Twitter user @h0x0d discovered a new collection of app in the Microsoft Store that are labeled as windows-8828080, which is actually of Microsoft’s phone number. While this could be an indication that Redmond itself is working on a mobile device and the company only wanted to drop a hint of such a project, it could also be just a coincidence, though this is very unlikely to be the case.

Furthermore, it looks like some of the apps listed in this category are specifically developed for phones, and not as universal apps working on all Windows 10 devices like PCs and tablets.

A dream finally coming true?

It goes without saying that without a confirmation from Microsoft, these are nothing more than unconfirmed signs of a mobile device that might be in the works behind the closed doors.

This has been the case for more than two years at Microsoft, with an alleged Surface Phone originally expected to launch in 2016, then said to be pushed back to 2017, and finally held back indefinitely as part of the company reconsidering its mobile push.

It’s believed Project Andromeda is somehow related to Microsoft’s new mobile device, though details in this regard are very scarce. Andromeda is Microsoft’s overhauled Windows shell supposed to bring devices closer together, and it looks like mobile is an important part of this strategy.

Previously, it was believed that Microsoft’s next mobile device could come in the form a Courier-like model that would allow for easy note taking and featuring two foldable screens connected to each other using an innovative hinge design to obtain one seamless display.

A healthy dose of skepticism is obviously recommended when reading all of these, as Microsoft could change its plans overnight at any given moment before what we hope to be an actual release of its new mobile device.
